A mejiro [Japanese white-eye (Zosterops japonicus)] discovers a solitary early blooming sakura in Totsuka, Yokohama yesterday, March 10, 2024.

The early bird, as the saying goes, catches the worm. But in the spring, the alert bird sips the first nectar in the garden.

Mejiros usually come early and perch from branch to branch. They move quickly from blossom to blossom sucking nectar. Each bird stays in the tree from five to thirty minutes. The subtle and deep fragrance of the cherry blossoms attract birds of all kinds, including crows.
