Hisame氷雨: Mejiros in the Cold Rain
A Distinguished Guest of Honor
A mejiro [Japanese white-eye (Zosterops japonicus)] discovers a solitary early blooming sakura in Totsuka, Yokohama yesterday, March 10, 2024.
The early bird, as the saying goes, catches the worm. But in the spring, the alert bird sips the first nectar in the garden.
Mejiros usually come early and perch from branch to branch. They move quickly from blossom to blossom sucking nectar. Each bird stays in the tree from five to thirty minutes. The subtle and deep fragrance of the cherry blossoms attract birds of all kinds, including crows.

The insignificance of leaves
If the leaves don’t ripen and fall to the ground, or when we can no longer see them (because the trees have gone), we may be walking in the desert.
And because they ripen and fall, we feel the passage of time, the cycle of nature. Just like my moustache, beard and silver hair that continues to go wild, time moves and flies.
I’m jealous
Pampas blossoms Along the road, I am taking pictures of pampas blossoms. An elderly lady passes by; she pauses and asks:‘Why do you like taking their pictures?’‘I’m jealous of them.’‘What about?’I take off my hat.‘Their hair.’The old lady laughs and smiles.‘What are you talking about,’ she says and leaves.
